any of you guys played that game oneshot yet? heard it's fairly similar although that's always gonna be a trite comparison

I take issues with games like OneShot or Superhot or Super Pony Island that advertise their unconventional universe breaking mechanics as selling points. It, to me, just removes a massive layer of immersion since you already know that the game is structured to be "different" before you even begin playing. So an element of surprise is lost.
What made this game stand out in that department is that you had no warning that the neutral ending boss was going to hijack your computer and drag it through hell.

That said, I like the pixel art/designs of the character screen shots (the overworld, no so much) so it has my interest. I'll check it out when I can.

I just love the different compositions that so many people have made since the games release. This soundtrack is just that damn good.

It's weird to say this is my all time favorite video game as it's an exclusively biased opinion and objectively it's not impressive from a technical sense etc. But it is the game I have enjoyed the most.

There are plenty of games that I love that aren't particularly good. Superman 64 is one of those.

game is manipulative af... It really doesn't want you to ponder whether it's good or bad to kill shit. It practicaly starts by calling you a monster, a downright evil cunt just for killing a fucking bug. Morals my balls, be ultra-pacifist and friendly sunshine beam of joy and puppies or be a soul-less monstrosity from hell. No in-between.
Nah, fuck this game.

I mean, when you have this cute quirky monster that doesn't look like a threat to you or your quest at all then there is no gray area of ethics. You are OBVIOUSLY the bad guy if you hurt it in any way.
I mean, DS does it better with the Sif fight. There's this poor animal fightin' in his master's memory, it's not his fault he's between you and your goal (the abyss ring you need for a key boss fight is on the wolf). It feels shitty to kill it, as it limps away when it's down to >10% health, but you are doing it for the greater good, right?
Or are you? Or u just do it cuz it's a game and who cares, right?
It gets in your skin, it's a strong, subtle moment, and it's stronger because it. It doesn't need to drag on for a whole fucking game. It becomes a cheap manipulation of our empathy otherwise.

I personally don't play this game to shape or spank up my morale, I appreciate the message but there is much more to the plot and characters beyond that.

yea, but it's all based on you engaging on that 'do I play this the RIGHT way or try the BAD GUY role' shit.
Can't look beyond it, I really believe they went way over their heads with that. There are some stupid characters that I hate, but overall it could've been a great little RPG. Would it have caught as much audience as it caught? Dunno. Could it have been a better game? I'm sure of it.

Absolutely disagree and I guess I enjoy it more than anything in the genre because I cannot invest myself emotionally or in any way to the lore of games like DS... It all feels so copy/paste from games in the same fantasy RPG genre, in every single facet.
I fuck with Undertale for the same reason people would've fucked with Earthbound back its release; For its character, personality and distinction from anything else in its market.
