They're fighting for the spot atm. I wish they'd come out at the same time so I'd have been able to hear them both as much. This was my definitive #1 until Kodama came out. They're not really comparable so it makes it hard to pick which one I prefer.

Alcest sings in French so I don't have that immediate connection with the vocals, but the emotion in the music is superior to this.

What I like about this release is that it sounds like an actual album. It has overarching themes and the tracks ebb and flow together so well. It's not just a collection of songs like so many "albums" are.

^when you're right you're right. They just posted the link on their facebook with the caption, "We covered Portishead's "Silence" the opening track to their album 'Third'" so I figured it was new. Came out 2 months ago according to Soundcloud though.
