beast whip and king rust are the highlights of the album, perfect music for running, makes you feel you are in the sludgy abd cruel far west

probably the album I've come back to the most this year, so good, Ruiner is the best song I heard all 2016.

Feel like the second cd is quite a bit weaker and starts feeling samey also the payoffs sometimes for the buildups aren't that great and the vocals don't meld well with the music at times being very hit and miss.

Coldbreaker, Final Will and Slow Forever are just okay tracks

That bass riff that kicks off Cold Breaker is hot

The bass riff with the "dun dun dun" floor tom on Ruiner always puts a smile on my face.

This album's really good. Still not big on the production though.

Feels nice and raw to me, what don't you like?

Doesn't feel upfront enough to me. Not bad, just feels like there's a wall between me and the band instead of me feeling enveloped in it.

I can see that.

My issue is that the album feels a bit repetitive come the second half.

The drummer's ride cymbal is so loud in this.

It is, and it is sounds great. The drums on this sound awesome.

there's something about this that's really made me come back to it in the past weeks

The drums really remind me of Danny Carey's setup (the acoustic elements, anyways). The higher-pitched rack toms (sound like at least 8-10 in.) and the low floor toms for contrast. Also that cutting dry ride cymbal. The production is obviously different but during some of the more tribal parts the semblance is undeniable.

which isn't too surprising as they list TOOL as an influence.. and even if they hadn't it's certainly apparent.

Album still slays for days. The second half drags a little bit but that's it. I prefer Charlie to the old vocalist tbh
