I would say despite its flaws, I enjoy this more than the s/t, which is good but very safe/unremarkable by DT standards. At least this is something different.
I am, however, looking forward to a regular length album. One of my main issues with this was that they simply spread themselves too thin. There are moments which are the most inspired material they've had in years, but it doesn't last long enough to have the impact it should.

Wow, I'm impressed. There obviously are people who really can enjoy this. Almost a bit jealous tbh as I don't see me coming back to this ever again. Very sad to say it but this is probably the one DT album they just shouldn't have made...

awake was the only good dt album anyway

Awake is the best agreed but there are at least 5 more DT albums I'm deeply in love with so...

Might prefer Awake by a narrow margin but hey, both albums are incredible. Really miss those days, the music had such a deepness and substance... They really had to say something back then for sure.

the highs (voices, space dye vest) on awake are higher, i will give it that, but the lows (first 3 tracks) are also much lower....for me
images is very consistent

Yeah I know you're not the biggest fan of Awake's first three Titan bro but for me they are perfect and the opener is nothing short of fantastic, awesome songwriting right there. I guess I have to say Awake is flawless for me.
But then, so is Images... Not a thing I'd change.

Images is their best album by far in my opinion. Never been a crazy fan of Awake

to clarify, the first 3 cuts are 'good'.....it's not like i don't like them at all

I think there are also way more people who like Scenes better than Awake but it's pretty clear that with Images those three are DT's best.
Six Degrees and Falling Into Infinity come damn close for me though...

Awake was destined to be darker and more song oriented, Kevin was going through rough times, Portnoy was going through hard times, it wasn't easy. First three tracks are really good, with 6:00 being the best.

I'm kneeling on the floor
staring at the wall
like the spider in the window
I wish that I could speak
Is there fantasy in refuge?
God in politicians?
Should I turn on my religion?
These demons in my head tell me to
I'm lying here in bed
Swear my skin is inside out
Just another Sunday morning
Seen my diary on the newsstand
Seems we've lost the truth to quicksand
It's a shame no one is praying
'Cause these voices in my head
keep saying...
absolutely love this

Yeah this is amazing... Evokes a deep longing in me somehow.
That solo following that part is so sick.

Yes.
I used to like Scenes more when I was younger, now I prefer Images & Awake.
And this album can eat my ass.

Voices is maybe my favourite Dream Theater song. I still really enjoy their new stuff, but it is sorely lacking the depth they used to have.

Still one of my fav bands ever, there's so much amazing DT stuff out there to love. Just spin one of the classics and rekindle the flame man, it'll work. Sometimes when getting on a classic in full I'm totally amazed and stunned at how damn good they were...
