The instrumentals on this album is peak Novelists. Memorable riffs and melodies. Vocals sound raw and full of character

It's the dichotomy of upbeat instrumentals and more brutal vocals that's throwing me off, also I find the clean vocals very buried in the mix

just jammed this in full for the first time in years and I like it more than I remember, may bump up to a 4. only real complaint is it feels a track or two too long

So I've finally cracked this album and I completely know why I wasn't into it for so long. The scream vocals are very reminiscent of nu metalcore and Emmure. Back when I was into this style of progressive metalcore the most no other harsh vocals quite had this type of vocal style. I found it really whiny and super irritating as the voice breaks every second word he says. Recently though, I've been getting more into Emmure and nu metalcore, only to find out that this is the vocal style I really did not like about this album all this time. I don't feel like a moron at all for not liking this all this time because I had a very valid reason to dislike it. It was just that vocal style that I was not used to in the slightest. I find it so insanely different to someone like JT Cavey. It's just has a more emo vibe about it that really rubbed me the wrong way. But now I like a bunch of bands in that style, most notably Void of Vision, which probably the main band to finally get me into that vocal style.
