^ seriously, why does nobody like this one? It's an awesome, downtrodden style they haven't really explored before

Production issues aside, nothing really sticks out to me like their other work does. Like yeah, it has some stellar songwriting and shit, but if I can't remember most of it shortly after listening to it then something is wrong.

"Also, I agree that for whatever reason I get a Mayday Parade Vibe from this album as well"

It's definitely Tales Told by Dead Friends if it were an LP just with different lyrics.

for me, that usually means i just have to give it more time. otherwise i'd be dismissing entire types of music like classical, jazz and metal just because i don't have a great memory.

Eh too much of this runs together, not enough diversity.

I second that, it feels samey after a while, but the songs themselves individually are great.

I strongly disagree with that. For TWY, this is a bunch of diversity.

Really tho? I feel like 4-5 songs have nearly identical song structures, many of the riffs sound repetitive and aren't fleshed out enough, and even lyrically words like "funeral" are used in numerous songs and stick out like a sore thumb when I hear it on multiple tracks. I dig the record but I feel like it could have used a few more months of work to make a better flowing album.

Absolutely in love with this. The Hotelier really did set the bar high with Home, Like NoPlace Is There last year, like some people have been pointing out, and I wouldn't say that this one tops that, but it's definitely up there as well. Remarkable.

Fantano's fun to watch but anyone who bases their opinion of a whole album off ONE review is just dumb

Fairly certain Robert Christgau(?) gave "In The Court..." a D+ and its annoying that there are certainly people who didn't even bother listening to the album cause of that rating and are missing out on quite a prog gem imo. I don't know what i'm trying to get at but just let dumb people be dumb
