i think it's their best opener aside from Cauda.

Haha if by opener you mean "first loud song on each album" I can't quite agree...although they are damn hard to rank. Cauda vs. Procession is one hell of a showdown.

Aw dude Cauda fuckin wrecks all. The Procession is decent but Cauda is a monster of a track. Combined with Writing on a Wall it shares the top spot with Red Hands and Bitter Suite 3: Embrace as their best song imo

Unpopular opinion time - I think Red Hands is pretty damn overrated. There's several better songs on that album.

Old Haunt is the weakest of their openers by a long shot tbh

Yeah man, really not a fan of the chorus and it just feels run-of-the-mill. Waves would've been way better

Openers ranked: In Cauda Venenum (4.5), Old Haunt (4.0), The Procession (4.0), City Escape (3.0).

Last two are kind of sloppy and hard to discern from a production standpoint, and Casey's vocals are rough stuff. If we're talking about the life performance they've been doing of City Escape in recent years though, that shit is incredible. He's vocally up to the ask and the arrangement is a bit better. Also, the live version on that CD Casey released earlier this year of The Procession I enjoy more.
