All I'm really concerned with is how much I like it, but I did find it strange that a significant handful of title-holding users found this to be so disappointing. As a result, I don't think it will make too much of a splash in the top 50 of 2015 staff list...a shame.

at least it has a good chance of making it into the user's top 50

It seems to have been fairly polarising, one of those albums that some people really love and others find patience testing. It's probably my AOTY but I completely understand why people dislike it.

tbh i reckon it's just that it's a really long album so people couldn't be bothered letting the entire thing sink in. which is completely fair if you don't wanna put in the effort because unless you really care about this band, you won't have the time or the motivation. but i don't think any truly great albums of this magnitude are ever as immediate as your standard 30-to-50 minute LP and if people just jammed it for a little longer they'd dig it as much as i do.
or maybe it's just not that great or whatever

like half the record is really good but then the other half is kinda 'eh?'.

kinda my opinion exactly. If this album was cut in half it would've been an easy 4, maybe 4.5
it's not that any of the tracks themselves are bad, but some of them aren't very interesting.

I think this is actually very consistent for what it is. No real weak spots. I just think a 3.5 is a suitable score, not that there are any real weak strings of songs.

Just an epic release, probably will hold onto the #2 spot for 2015 personally, unless mewithoutYou, Father John Misty, or The Dear Hunter make a significant leap in the last month of this year.

mewithoutyou is definitely going to make my top 10, possibly top 5

Rainbow Signs emerged as my favorite track off of that, and one of my favorite tracks of the year. It hits really hard for anyone with a religious upbringing - so I'm not sure how others perceive it but I get chills every time. Damn just talking about it is making me want to listen to it.

speaking of which I haven't listened to MWY for a while, gonna jam it rn

MWY is one of a few bands that I think is capable of rivaling Brand New as my favorite artist...they simply cannot produce even mediocre results. Everything from Brother, Sister on has been a 4.5 or 5 for me, and judging on my affinity for them alone Pale Horses will probably end up getting a bump in the future.

For a 29 track album it's actually very short. There's a lot of interludes and the overall pace is quite fast.

Yeah that's a great track, although I prefer No Future Part V, Dimed Out, (S)He Said/(S)He Said, and Fired Up to it.

didn't really like that song all that much honestly. It's not bad but I never really found it to be that memorable.
