It's actually quite enjoyable... phew. Couldn't resist pre-listening online just to make sure I hadn't made an error in judgement.

If you need in-depth knowledge of music theory to enjoy something it's not good tbh. This is complex af but any dm fan should be able to enjoy it

Completely agree with you Ocean, I actually don't ever want to be in a position where I understand music to that degree. I'm happy just being a fan rather than an analyst.

This is surprisingly awesome, what's with that average? Such an interesting album & plenty of cool riffs for musically-inept peasants like myself to enjoy, love the variety & slowed down bits. I'd assumed it was incomprehensible, dissonant & plain weird given the low score & what I'd read about it but this rules.

In the context of the time, it was weird. And to answer your question, this has a low rating because its the same band that pioneered melo-death. Many melo-death fans dont like death metal.

Well that makes sense, I know they're generally considered more of a melo-death band & Slaughter of the Soul was highly regarded by those who appreciated the genre. I'm sort of glad I heard this first in a way, at this stage I have no DM-related sub-genre/style bias as I'm so new to it, still discovering myself & trying to assertain what I find enjoyable.

You have excellent ethos for music criticism .

Within/Windows is incredible, might be favourite DM album passage so far, right up there anyway. Didn't expect to dig this quite as much as I do.
