New one just sounds like more of this album but with songs that are a little more structurally varied. Where this album leans more towards indie pop, the new one leans more towards prog pop. But if someone didn't like this album much, I can't imagine they'd like the new one a whole lot either.



So far I'll say that this album is a little better than the new one because it's more consistently engaging. But they're both a 7/10 for me right now. Need more time with the new on to form a proper opinion though obvs.

I need more listens to pick favourites, but i already loved Twist Quest and Carry Me to Safety. I love that a lot of the songs have a bit of an instrumental jamming outro. Wake of Your Life outro is great.

curious to hear how it sounds though - they were actually my favourite band in 2014 but i kinda lost touch with them after their plus/minus, esp. considering "No More Stories" was probably my all-time favourite album and plus/minus was a letdown relatively (still a good album but not what i'd expect from them)

No More Stories is the best and Frengers is close behind. Their new one is great but as I suspected, worse than this and anything else they've done. I'll spin it again a few more times tomorrow and on into the week and see if my thoughts change any. It's definitely concise, but not in the best intentions of the word. Felt like too many corners were cut. I like them being grandiose and over the top. Candy Pieces All Smeared Out is definitely a highlight I think too

I was cynical as fuck about it. I'm a weirdo and think this is almost as good as No More Stories and Frengers. This album is criminally underrated. And I'm still disappointed in the new one. I have it at a 3.5 but that's the lowest I've ever given an album by them. I'm hoping it grows but I usually immediately get Mew. -_-

Visuals is waaay more interesting than this one,and songs like In a Better Place, Candy Pieces all Smeared Out, The Wake of Your Life, Ay Ay Ay and Twist Quest make quite the case on that regard, I think. Hopefully it'll grow for you.

new album is very lacking in hooks compared to this. and it doesnt really have big moments. there are some really great tracks that make it shine, but also a few completely forgettable songs. whereas this album is more consistently good throughout. for me so far Twist Quest and Carry Me to Safety are the clear standouts, but Wake of Your Life and Ay Ay Ay are both great too. but i just cant listen to the new album without completely zoning out and getting bored half way through track 3 and for the whole of track 4, then again with track 6. too many dips but still some great tracks.



whats with the cheesy as fuck hamfisted rhyming couplets though? theres quite a few and theyre all awkward.
