This is an alright review, but I'm gonna be honest, it definitely suffers from being rushed. It's very hard to digest something this dense so quickly, and I commend you for even trying, but there's a lot of awkward phrasing like:
"...nor is it really a continuation of his desire to avoid being like the many in his hometown of Compton and of what is wrong with it."
Also a lot of gushing without really saying anything, and generalities like:
"Hell, there could be a debate whether this tops that because it is so good"
I'm not trying to be a douche but I definitely think you could write a new review down the road that encapsulates your thoughts better, because it's obvious you're a good writer. I LOVE this record and gave it a 5, but there's not much objectivity here that backs up your rating.

"I mean my opinions change, but that's usually from overspinning an album. Either way nine times out of ten, my first impressions are usually more or less in line with how I tend to perceive an album even after dozens upon dozens of listens."
I agree with this, but I do think that spending more time on a review of an album this dense gives you more time to flesh out your thoughts/avoid hyperbole, even if your main points remain the same.

really digging King Kunta, u, These Walls and How Much a Dollar Cost. great vibe throughout the album; progresses nicely from gkmc. will need a bit longer to tell whether it matches up though

A lot of people on this thread have been commenting on the number of 5s being handed out for this. It is interesting, considering how little time the record has been out, that so many people have felt it deserves a 5. Personally, I am fine with people giving rating based on their first instinct. However, I also feel that one of the purposes of the Sput to database music and its respective ratings accurately. Perhaps, Sput should add a feature where if a user decides to rate an album as classic they have to "refresh" their rating a year later. This would ensure that the album ages as the authors initially intended.

This definitely feels a lot more like Section.80 than GKMC

I don't think it's wrong to give something a 5 after the first couple listens... I knew I had only started to flesh out my thoughts on the album after my first 2-3 listens, but I had a general idea of how much I dug it and why I thought it was so great. That should be enough for an initial rating tbh.

"Yeah these are by far the best beats Kendricks been on"
even counting the songs he's guest verse'd on???
I've never really liked Kendrick's solo beats and it doesn't do him any favors but he's a show stealer when he's using someone else's beats

I like it alot. I think it does a good enough job of not taking itself too seriously, so I find it hard to see it as corny, but I guess some people might.

Remember when GKMC dropped, everyone kept saying "Section .80 > GMKC" lol. Now it's "GKMC > TPABF" trends don't change.
|

i guess it's not fair to call it the ~worst album~ because that sounds objective
it is maybe my least favorite album i've heard so far tho
