He can be a bit pretentious but it's always been more about the music and less about the image for me. That said I do like the persona/image he's gone for on this album.
Of course he ripped off The Man Who Fell To Earth in the promotional images and videos for Mechanical Animals but the album itself is brilliant (in my opinion of course).

Tuna - Saw him supporting Holy Wood at Reading Fest ('01) and Big Day Out in Milton Keynes I think, Metallica headlined if I recall ('99)

Damn, that was at the height of his popularity too. I suppose he was also fucked up on sniff 99% of the time too though.

When he had the fire in his belly. Still, he was amazing when I saw him last year.

I keep listening to this album and it still sounds just as damn good. I half expected to get bored but I fucking love it.

Still slays. I just wish it was longer.

This works just fine as it is, while some other stuff of his could have benefitted from having a shorter duration.

The acoustic tracks were a really nice touch imo. Bought the deluxe the day this album dropped and I still bump it.

Yeah the acoustic stuff is really nice. Brings a new aesthetic to them and they sound great

Those acoustic tracks work really well.

He needs to go further down this route on the next album.

I dunno if I'd be happy with an acoustic heavy LP, but if he was to do what Foo Fighters did, I'd be down with that.

When I said that I meant I wanted him to continue the bluesy style of the album, not the acoustic style of the bonus tracks. An all acoustic Manson album would get a bit boring.

Oh, haha yeah, the blues is definitely the route I think he'll continue in the future, especially considering the acclaim he's recieved for this. Plus it feels like the natural thing to do. Need to keep some Deep Six sounding tracks in the fold though.

This is his best received album since Holy Wood, he's be insane not to continue the blues. He's going through a career renaissance right now and he should make the most of it.

Indeed. Hope he doesn't leave it too long until the next record. Wonder if he'll continue collaborating with Tyler Bates or if he'll move on to jam with other people.

I'd like Tyler to stay on board but more importantly I don't want Twiggy to leave again. When I picked this up last year and had a look through the liner notes, I was worried because Twiggy's name wasn't anywhere to be seen. Apparently he's going to be on the next album though.

Yeah, Twiggy wasn't involved with the writing at all on this. That, I would say, is the only thing this album lacks: Twiggy.
