So has anybody said that Matt Berninger (The National) had a tremendous influence on the vocal performance? Because he fucking did.

This is an immensely impressive marriage of Berninger's volatile, fragile vocal delivery with Emo songwriting and pacing.

I passively enjoyed ripple water and repine, but after listening to the album in its entirety a few times, that buildup in April around 3:25 sold me. That song's buildup redirected my expectations and helped me focus on the album's pacing and atmosphere (which was hard, considering their discography). I might review this once I finish up studying for this shelf exam.

That's exactly what I was trying to communicate earlier on in this thread, Skoj. Couldn't agree more with you. That exact part in April that you speak of just knocks me on my ass.

Yeah April is a jam and a half, one my favorites from this.

for real. This album's value lies in its subtleties. Not everyone expects that depth nor the need to immerse oneself in the album's details, especially if they grew accustomed to their prior sound.

Yeah this album is largely built on those subtleties I find; If you miss them or you're not paying attention to them, the emotional appeal of most of the album just slips by without notice.
