I tried to get into this again today and the damn production just kills it, way too many vocal layers, I just want to hear devin sing some straight forward awesome shit, this choir stuff is getting out of control.

I consider this two separate albums. Both are 3.5-4 and I think I might actually prefer Skye Blue in some respects. Besides that, Fallout promo version >>> Anneke version.

Have to agree with Gmork about those choirs.

And I never liked Anneke on any of the project albums.

Addicted is my least favorite of all DTP lol. Has some great songs but... Anneke's presence underwhelms me.

ok I just bought this yesterday, how's everyone doing their tags just out of curiosity?

was thinking of doing DTP - Z2 but decided against that, ended up having it as DTP - Blue Sky, and Devin Townsend solo - Dark Matters disk 1 (normal) and disk 2 (raw)

I think it works better that way as Blue Sky is definitely a DTP album but Ziltoid is not part of the DTP series so Dark Matters wouldn't fit under the DTP name.

Dark Matters being under Devin Townsend solo also works because the first Ziltoid album I have tagged under that as well.

"As we're born to ride alone/Never to return"

his vocals during that part tho! And I mean "his" because I only jam the original version with devvy doing the main vox.

This is probably the worst non-ambient DT album.

It sounds like there is something in the background making some monotone noise, like someone set a beer on the keyboard and nobody noticed it playing the same random synth note for the duration of the recording process.

Aside from Fallout, New Reign and t/t are pretty sweet imo.

Sky Blue is still really fucking fun, similar vein as Epicloud but more substantial, but Dark Matters is just as often boring as it is interesting. Poozers alone do not a classic album make.
