Finally got around to going through their discog after having only listened to the first album. I've been missing out, this is everything I've ever wanted from the doom/sludge side of metal.

From the band’s socials.
Foundations of Burden was released on this day in 2014.
Over the past year we’ve completely reconstructed the album from the original sessions, with remixed and remastered treatments of its six pieces that fully realize our original vision for this transformative part of our history.
This refreshed release features entirely new artwork from artist Ben Vierling, imbuing the album with his own visionary interpretation of the record’s iconography.Â
More information and pre-orders for Foundations of Burden (2025 Redux) launch this Friday at 9am EST.

They released a song (watcher in the dark) from the upcoming redux of the album. I think it’s sick.

i'm genuinely angry at how bad the redux/remaster is - overcompressed, reverby and headache-inducing mess. wtf happened to this band

I ask myself that too but at least MBA was a tiny step up. Still a 3.0 though.

There are some minor critiques I have with it but overall I feel like it has a better low end and more separation/clarity amongst the instruments. Just less muddy overall. I like the original mix and it has its charm. Not saying I prefer this remaster to the original but it makes for a fresh listening experience.

that's interesting - i felt the opposite. when both were volume matched the newer one sounded far muddier due to the heavy handed compression. i will say the vocals sound a bit clearer but everything else is lost in the compression - i'd likely feel a lot more positively about the new mix had they just been more conservative with it. that and the reverb (which naturally suffers due to there being no space in the mix for that reverb to breathe).
on a really good system the original mix isn't muddy at all to me - it's a bit dry but it's crystal clear and has a lot of personality. to me the new one just sounds bloated. perhaps we internally have different definitions of muddy in the same way some people have different internal definitions of terms like heavy etc., which is valid i suppose. glad you're enjoying it but i can't stand it.
