Nirvana had some of the most haunting lyrics for a mainstream alt.rock 90's band

them and alice in chains.

@lol no death, what I mean is that to me the lyrics feel like Kurt just shoved together random lines that might have sounded nice together. The songs come of as pointless not because they dont have some political agenda (I could care less about politics anyway) but because half the lines in them don't have anything to do with eachother. I haven't listened to this album, only most of nevermind and I could finish it no matter how many times I've tried so I could be speaking out of my ass about the rest of their discog but from what I've heard I can't stand it.

Also songs like In Bloom come off as so forced it hurts

So it sounds more like to me that you aren't a fan of stream of consciousness lyrics. That's cool. To each their own. Seems like there's a lot of people on this site that sit on your side of the fence, but it's always been one of my favorite styles.

I see nothing wrong with that quote. Nirvana had 2 top 40 singles. That's pretty mainstream
dude. Even if both were on Nevermind.

Nirvana was super underground. That's why a fourth of the country mourned when Kurt committed suicide.

The production is easily their best ye, but the songwriting on here is crazily consistent.

Big Black wrote half of these songs years earlier though
