I'm gonna be reaaaallly generous and give this a 3.5 and hope it grows some more. A 3 is probably more appropriate and a 2.5 would make an equal amount of sense.

Sounds about right.

I can't think of any reason to listen to this instead of, like, Whirr or Ride other than French is kinda cool sometimes.

New Whirr is probably the best thing they've done so far.

It was OK, if I remember correctly. Their other stuff was better.

Their other stuff is still some of the best shoegaze in many years but it remained rather typical (as is the usual criticism of that band and so many others).

With Around they got out of that and found something that sets them apart stylistically.

My favorite is still Pipe Dreams, but Around might just be second best
