To state the first Korn record isn't a classic, is rather bold

Not really, most people here don't think of it as a classic too.
|
| |
Depends on how you define "classic"
Not liking something or being rather lukewarm on something, doesn't really denounce something's classic status

definitely stands above everything else within the genre it helped create

I really liked Korn back in the day. I just heard other albums that are classics. And they're infinitely better than this.
|
| |
That's because you adhere to the sputnikal subjective definition of a "classic".
I consider at least 5 Radiohead albums to be classics of their respective genre, despite the fact their music sounds like a pile of shit to my own subjective ears.

well said.

Not really. For example Pink Floyds The Wall is considered a classic pretty much by everyone and it sounds like shit to me. I won't give it a 5.

I will never understand you

How can you consider something a classic personally if you don't like it in the first place?
|
| |
Because "classic" - to me at least - isn't something personal.

Lol.

Well I'd like to think that something "classic" is something that impacts you in a way (musically, emotionally, whatever it may be) that you can't find in other albums. I don't know, I just can't seem to find an objective way of defining a classic if everyone has a different appeal to sound and style.

So you'd give a 5 to something you hate just because it is a classic to anyone else and because it was influencial for other artists in a said genre?
I mean, objectivity should definitely be taken into account but wow

Is... Is that directed towards Thalassic?

Yeah

No of course not. Personally I don't really care for ratings. I 5 when I like it, I 1 when I hate it. I've got bigger fish to fry than thinking out my own personal rating system.
From my personal point of view, I think the "5 = Classic" equation Sputnik uses in its rating system is a bit of a misnomer. Especially when you look at how subjective of an art music is and how subjective taste is in general while at the same time the place in history of a specific piece of art when it comes to innovation and critical response isn't subject to subjectivity.
Just my own personal 2 cents.

I can’t with you Zeuzo. Ily and all, but you’re quick to shit on something and on someone’s opinions, but when the same is done to you, you lose your shit. You’ve gotten more and more shitposty, but if you can’t take it don’t dish it, man.

I guess you're right coldy. At the end of the day everything is subjective and I probably won't ever change anyone's opinion by shitting on it.
I respect people's opinions.
BUT only when they're reasonable. As an example it's ok when someone likes SNW more than White Pony and says it's better. They're both amazing albums.
As an other very exaggerated example if someone told me that Korn is a better band than Pink Floyd I'd just lose my shit.
Subjectivity matters a lot, but some records/bands are just objectively better than the others.
But yeah I probably shouldn't be such an asshole and should have put everything I say in more kind words. Sorry baby
I'll still probably shit on people but I'll try not to be such a cunt! (it won't happen)
