imagine a band that puts out really good music. and then after some time all their members end up changing such that the band has a completely different lineup and plays something thats maybe kinda the same genre but not really anymore. are fans wrong to compare it with the debut?

I still prefer the look of the old games, and they play very well. Fallout 1 and 2 have aged a thousand times better than 3 and NV in terms of pure look and gameplay.

I never said it's wrong to compare future installments with a debut. But should a band's music or video game sequels all be true to the first release and not change at all just to please the hardcore fans? I like when bands try new things, and video games should too. Otherwise it risks being boring and pointless. I totally understand wanting more meaningful choices in a game though. I remember how engrossed and involved i was in the KOTOR and Mass Effect games that were amazing with that.

What change is good or isn't good is just up to subjective opinion, like you've both been talking about how some value exploration, amazing graphics, and open worlds more than decision making and depthful storylines. Ideally these games would have a good balance of all these things.

I was more talking about the points I made after that statement: "some value exploration, amazing graphics, and open worlds more than decision making and depthful storylines" those are all subjective things to prefer in a game, whereas yea technical stuff like bugs and lacking content is a different story.

i think if an rpg series guts and neuters its rpg components and depth in order to go chase after the open world meme bandwagon to sell more copies... maybe thats not a good change?!?!
