I can't believe I read all that. Shit happens. If the girl was uncomfortable, that sucks; she did what she should in this case and said so. Why anything continued after that is beyond me, but some guys are so insecure that they'll let a lover's previous relationship ruin the one they're in.

Guy was 17, made a dickmove (literally) and apologized for it afterwards. They even continued to be friends if everything in the e-mail is true. So the only ones to blame are the new bf and the guy seeking attention with this "story" by making it public, who should both grow the fuck up.
