It's funny cos there's always a slight part of me that thinks Opeth may go metal again.

Then I wake up and realise that's a load of rubbish tbh aha.

I'd be just as happy if they wrote music like Heritage, which would be more likely. Or if they took the occult acoustic rock parts of Sorceress and went full-on weirdness with that stuff, sort of like Storm Corrosion.

A whole album like Seventh Sojourn would rule so hard.

Idk, I wouldn't rule out Opeth going metal again. I honestly think they'll do it again in the near future... I could always be wrong though, of course

@Pleb: Yeah exactly, along with The Wilde Flowers (minus those verses), Sorceress 2, and a lot of the calmer parts in general that album really nailed. Mikael really needs to up his lyrics game too, I need more gothic weirdness like on GR

Yeah, it really does seem like lyric have taken the biggest nosedive for Opeth, which is really sad because their lyrics are one of my favorite features of their old work

Opeth's lyrics are much like PT's tbh, not bad but nothing awesome.

Both bands have expert instrumental arrangements that overshadow any lyrical blemishes.

Eh, I have to disagree. Mikael's one of my all-time favorite lyricists because of albums like Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse, and Ghost Reveries

It's more his delivery tbh.

There's no vocalist that could touch him in his prime for his clean and harsh vox tbh.

Never been a fan of Devys vocals but it's not hard to be better than Steve vocally haha

I still disagree, Pleb. You can't tell me Mikael's lyrics are as bad as Steven's when songs like Baying of the Hounds and Godhead's Lament exist

Their lyrics have always been secondary to me dude, Mikael's instrumental work is just too good.

Sorry Pleb but I'm with Soccer on this. At his best, Mikael's lyrics are top-tier. Wilson's are at best average and at worst laughably awful.

Also, Devin Townsend is one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Wilson is possibly one of the worst. No comparison there at all.

As I've just stated, Opeth's actual song arrangements are what make them so good/unique.

The 'xbox' line on FoaBP t/t is pretty bad.

This is some of the craziest work Wilson has ever written, like Intermediate Jesus like a massive drug trip it's amazing.
