If they had cooler shirts I'd already have pre-ordered a bundle. I'll be getting this the day it drops no matter what.

I don't know about an average, but if I had to guess (and I don't, but I will) I don't expect many fives and think it will be somewhat polarizing. I'm guessing a lot of spiteful 2-2.5's will be inevitable because of their reputation, with a large amount of the loyalists awarding it a 3.5-4. I'd bet it starts out high, maybe close to 4, and ends up at 3.4-3.5. I hope it rules though.

That's all just rambling conjecture though with no real reasoning behind it though lol. So, we'll see.

The singles for this are better than Emperor of Sand and that album has actually been remarkably well received, hoping the deeper cuts elevate it from being simply good towards excellent. Weird comparison, I can just relate because I'm a fan of both bands & there was/is some pre-release trepidation surrounding both.

I'm not comparing these guys to Mastodon musically, it's just two somewhat hyped releases by bands I like which were/are surrounded by doubt from sections of the fanbase & for reasons I can understand. Comparing situations not the music itself. Personally I liked the singles here better but I'm not saying these guys are better than Mastodon, that'd be a pointless comparison anyway. I was thinking of reasons for optimism.

I get that, these guys are releasing a comeback album 17 years after their last. Honestly, I've heard 6 songs from '17 in total (with the exception of forgettable, mainstream radio dross) & I'm more optimistic for this release than I was for EoS based on the singles. This is all I'm trying to say.

I remember that 2 years ago I created a twitter account, and I started writing messages to famous people, one of them was Cedric and I asked him if quarantined was about resident evil and he answered me humorously "No, it's about marley and me". I think I made lots of Cedric followers happy....
