Guitarist fret/pick attacks are reminiscent of being severely beaten by someone who is very quick and skillful with the almighty numchucks!

I don’t even hear vocals on death metal albums
|

So vocals are never a highlight nor an issue for you?

Chalky's vox are a genre in themselves. They take this album a notch up but let's be fair, the riffs are where it's at

Agreed on the riffing being above all. Also semi agree on not focusing much on the vocals in dm. Although I'll say if they're mind-blowing it's definitely a plus. It's really hard for me to find some dm unlistenable because of the vocals though, they have to really be obnoxious for it to be a big deal for me. Clean vocals on the other hand I'm pretty damn picky about and I wish I wasn't because there's a lot of stuff with some insane guitar playing that I just never go back to because I find the vocal style too cheesey/grating

Riffs are where it's at [2] agreed but for some reason I just find the vox on Divine Council to be uniquely distracting. The high and low register vox frequently being layered together remind me Behemoth's Demigod in the worst way.

Vocals are where it's at for me, but that's because Chalky is just so fucking unique and irreplaceable. Constantly surprising and weird, one of my favorite vocal performances in all of metal.
Although the riffs are also God tier so I can't argue too much. But yeah, for me, the vocals make this shit stand out above most other dm albums.

Vocal performance here is probably top 3 in the genre for me. My number 1 is forever Suffocation- Human Waste. Doesn't have the variety this one does but Frank truly sounds like the creature on the album cover and that one always stuck with me in a huge way. I'd like to put some thought into my top 10 for death metal and make a list or something. There's a handful that spring to mind

John Paoline of Mortal Decay has some pretty neat vocals as well, quite varied on the Forensic album.

"John Paoline of Mortal Decay has some pretty neat vocals as well, quite varied on the Forensic album."
Facts! My number two would actually be A Gathering of Human Artifacts more than likely. Yesterday someone in a Facebook group had posted a request looking for dm with a wide variety of vocal approaches and this, Mortal Decay and Blasphemer were the first ones that came to mind. Great to see some Mortal Decay love. Possibly the most underrated/overlooked band in the genre. That Forensic album specifically has a strong Demilich vibe with the vocals.

Johns vocals are truly bizarre at times lol, definitely has some Demilich vibes. They are criminally underrated agreed, its a shame they don't get more love. Blasphemer On the Inexistence of God is absolutely insane, those vocals take you by surprise to say the least.
