I was being serious, haha.

Tool on the other hand are nearly as boring as hearing people salivate over them, not quite though. Edit: ok I'm lying, Tool are mostly better too (with the exception of Core, obviously).

I know you're serious, but you're wrong. These guys are crazy underrated and misunderstood constantly.

If nothing else, at least their quality has remained afloat. Opeth's modern career has been a complete downward spiral.

'If nothing else, at least their quality has remained afloat'

I disagree, their quality has been in consistent decline since Core.

I won't defend Opeth's last 2 albums but as a whole they have a much more extensive discography & the number of quality releases far outnumbers anything they've produced since (that's probably how artists should be judged). It's a bizarre & unfair comparison anyway, which I'm sure Kusangii wasn't even attempting to make.

Well yeah, we were joking, because this band is not bad lol. Kusangii was the OG Persefone fan before I came on these boards.

You see decline, I see growth. They peaked in Core, sure, but that'd be a peak for any given band. I'd say they ended up reaching another high with Aathma, which basically encompassed everything about their progression wrapped up in their signature sound.

It's not conceivable that a band capable of producing Core is bad, so yes I agree. I actually rate these guys a lot higher than the majority of artists, one outstanding & special release is infinitely more desirable to me than an artist that's capable of producing a never-ending supply of 'quite good' material.

My criticism comes from a place of disappointment, the disappointment that I cannot see their new direction in a positive light. I should probably give this another go (& Aathma). Whenever I revisit post-Core Persefone I feel drawn towards Shin-Ken as it's the album which appeared to have the most 'potential' initially, but think I've worn that one out, it's getting very much into the 'forcing it' territory now.

Yes, I understand , but despite all this is unfairly destroying someone's brilliant work and a total lack of objectivity, I would never dare review music that does not interest me.
