With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness is the last real interesting At the Gates album.

The problem with this album is that it's not of the same quality of the first two releases.

The first track is pure filler. Nothing interesting going on and wank solos that add nothing. Raped by the Light of Christ is slightly better but still nothing memorable.

Most of the songs follow in the same vein as those found on TRITSIO. Chaotic rhythms, quick tempo shifts, and the mood is always changing. Stardrowned is a perfect example of this.

Track #5, Primal breath, is the highlight of this album and is easily one of the band's best songs. The structure of the song is constantly evolving, but there are plenty of memorable riffs, and great melodies. This song should have ended the album.

The Architects is another solid track where Tomas Lindberg proves once again that he is one of Sweden's best vocalists. The drumming is also excellent compared to the insipid drumming on Slaughter Of The Soul.

After 'Blood of the Sunsets', the album goes downhill again. The title track is decent, but too short. The Last 2 songs are completely uninspired. Matti Kärki provides backing vocals on Ever-Opening Flower but it does nothing to make the song better. The cover stuffed in at the end of Through the Red is pointless.

The first two and last two songs could have been cut and you would be left with 7 songs clocking in at 31 minutes. Now that album would nearly be on par with The Red in the Sky Is Ours.

This is cool, maybe it's the production that puts some people off.

The production is probably the biggest issue, yeah. But the songwriting is absolutely top-notch
