^ Agreed.

I'd rather go down on some proper rum, hell even a properly mixed drink with cheap mid-class rum is alright with me. Or proper Whiskey, add to that some ice - proper ambience/people and some good cigars. Some good ol' classy shit.

yeah dude agreed, I'm a beer and scotch man myself

I had some buddies at my place for dinner though so I got them to help me out with it, otherwise I'd never finish the bottle!

I'm actually pretty picky with beer, at least the local stuff. I mainly dig Lager but "white beer" and Pils? Fuck that shit. But internationally there's some really sweet stuff, Belgian beer is supposedly pretty good. In general I'm a fan of a lot of "traditionally British" stuff (ale and everything that relates to it, rum, whiskey).

dev sure Rottun was around before skrillex got big but it in no way was popular. skrillex really blew the lid off everything in america at least

Like I said, I agree that he really opened a lot of doors (even if it was simply because he was clever enough to merge his bass heavy sound with a lot of pop sensibilities) but at the same he's only piggybacked off a sound that Excision and the like were bringing to the table. It wasn't headlining national tour popularity, but it was certainly more than just word of mouth. They had a sizable audience, and Sonny has simply expanded on it

i dk the only people who knew i know who about excision (read: one person, my roommate) were people really into bass-heavy music/with a pretty broad knowledge of electronic music in general already

Yeah Skrillex brought the audience, Excision didn't have a giant following before Skrills came around

Try telling that to the thousands of people who were downloading digital Rottun EPs, and attending Smog and Dub War. I'm not arguing that Skrillex didn't bring something massive to the sound in terms of exposure and popularity (I feel like this is the third time I've said this), but there was already a vast commitment from a rather sizable audience

re: Dev's response to me (sort of)

weird, I don't know much about his history like you do. I figured his first releases were those brostep/electro EPs.

any argument you have about who really started the whole trend in North America is moot anyway because here's what I said: "Brostep arguably became trendy as a result of Skrillex becoming popular, not the other way around. I mean, who was doing brostep before him (with a similar level of exposure)?"

that question is still unanswered, and that's my only point. It doesn't matter that he didn't invent it, but he delivered it to the masses like never before. Talk about the Rottun guys all you want, but for every 1 American you give me that knows who Excision is, I will give you 300 that know who Skrillex is (and that's honestly probably a generous underestimation).
