the metal influences and more conventional song structures are a weak point in this; but they still bust out incredible riffs on a regular basis. also the lyrics are much more structured where on atru they were nearly free-form

The album cover is incredibly amazing and compliments the music. The vinyl packaging is glorious!

I like this band a lot. I feel like I would like them a lot more if the screams were better. it does fit the music, but I dunno I just dont love em.

their biggest appeal to me is how perfectly kathy and drew contribute each other with them. they sure require a lot of listens to be fully digested

do you mean complement? i had no clue that was a chick. that explains a lot. still sounds like a 16 year old kid sometimes.

Would it be unpopular to say I prefer Kathy's vocals over Drew's?
Of course they work better together, but individually her voice is just...cool, Idk

"do you mean complement?"
i guess so. my english is a little rusty

Ehh I wouldn't say there's no point, I kinda like the sludgier and more refined sound of this.
I mean I remember liking this quite a bit, should probably spin again.

ATRU kills this, the songwriting is so muted here
|

Album Rating: 4.5 | Sound Off
muted? hell no (it's not atru level but still)
people really need to learn to judge this without constant atru comparisons

Album Rating: 4.0
the songwriting is very muted. gone are the sidewinder song structures and in their place are much more standard repetitious verse-chorus tracks.

that applies to, umm, almost none of the songs on here

Album Rating: 4.0
eh I didn't have a better way to describe it, but there are definitely more hooks and more standard songwriting on this. it's less interesting structurally than the dynamic songs presented on atru.
and yeah they made a classic album so their work will be judged by that standard. deal w it.

plus one of the things i loved about atru, the absolutely alien guitar tones, are gone here. i've seriously never heard guitars with that tone besides on atru
