sister cities is really great but y'know kinda bummed that we're only getting 9 new songs. w/e though it probably works well on the album.

frances' voice is just slightly fucked up on that new song; it sounds just a little bit more strained than usual whenever she goes into her trademark emotional thing but there's something so endearing about the fact that she just keeps doing it anyway even though she probably shouldn't. it's a pretty wonderful song overall. getting the hype up to serious AOTY contention.

9 songs is a pretty standard length for an album

honestly i'm not sure whether i like it more than the shaking through version, which had a more fluid and dynamic vocal performance as well as better mixing, though the painted shut version benefits from the rawer sound.

really? I enjoyed the new one so much more than this
and I can't figure out why because they're pretty sonically similar, no?
either way, it makes me want to revisit this

mm, idk if they're that similar. pretty distinct sounds for me. still gonna need a lot more listens of the new one to make a quality call.

id say they are definitely similar sonically but just a little more bland for the most part. there are tracks here and there (mostly in the front half) that i enjoy, a couple id go back to, but most of it blends together and there are no songs that ripped my heart out like Tibetan Pop Stars did. i don't feel like i'll be revisiting it much.

oh Tibetan Pop Stars; yeah that definitely kills anything from the new one
that being said, I think there are more highlights on the new one for some reason... even if none of them reach the heights of TPS
I haven't listened to this since like 2003 though
