Is it similar to when Mastodon when all proggy and lost the sludge on Crack the Skye?
Something like that, but Mastodon replaced something excellent (sludge/metalcore in instruments and vocals) with something equally excellent (prog/classic metal with superb instrumentation and awesome clean vocals).
Here black metal is off the window and I'm not sure I approve the extra dosage of dreamy prog rock in its place..

Well I genuinely do like this album, and I think it's going to stay that way for a long time. I'm constantly listening to all Enslaved albums to see if my opinion changes, and it actually does from time to time. I used to love 'Eld' for instance, but now four years later I can't stand it. I think this will be a divisive album in the way that ,
1)It will challenge fans of the band as well as people who haven't heard Enslaved's latter material before, and
2)People will need to listen to it more than once if they are committed to forming an actual opinion of the album, because there are things on here that require more concentration than is perceived.

the guitar work and the production is less sophisticated than it was for example in "below the lights" and "isa". that's the problem with the last outings, you won't find songs like "As fire Swept clean the earth" here. i like it nevertheless, but i think Voivod is not wrong with his statement.
