Well I just don't see this as being anything new or original, and it just isn't as intense and creative as their first album. I find this stale and don't think it does much to stand out much in the modern scene.

all the points you have made have been purely subjective. 'the riffs and melodies are boring', 'it isnt as intense and
creative as their first album.'
I disagree because I think largely the opposite, I didn't find Haunt What's Left to be particularly creative, not any more so
than this anyway. It was to a greater extent more guitar driven than Dead Years but some of the riffs in this are pretty
special, Americans for a start, A Damn Moment, Hard Branch to Snap are other highlights with regard to this. Also I'd
check out the lyrics before calling them corny and uplifting, some of them are pretty harrowing.

Okay yeah that's fair, but this still isn't really anything new stylistically, I feel like they went with a more run-of-the-mill type sound. I miss their old darker melodic riffs, now they just use typical d-minor melodies that are played to death at this point. Sorry I really meant to say the lyrics are that typical 'struggle' type stuff that every band does now and tweak everyday metaphors. Im a bit let down with the direction they went in and it's been hard for me to get into it and take it for what it is.

I agree with speding, and this is actually their best release imo. It's more coherent, solid.. It
doesn't tire, its just a purely good listen.

The best things about Haunt What's Left were the guitar groves, vocals and technical
instrumentation. The vocals have changed to the extent where I initially questioned why the vocalist
was replaced. The album is also ridiculously breakdown focused. This leaves less room for impressive
fret work. Haunt What's Left always layered breakdowns. This album does it, but unfortunately with
far less frequency.
The drum work is just boring here period. The choruses are poor in contrast to HWL. I feel like
those melodic lines on HWL could only have come from one specific person. In contrast, I wouldn't be
surprised to hear the choruses of Dead Years(with the exception of a few) on any generic metalcore
release.

TOTA isn't that GREAT, lets leave it at that... and eat some chocolate puddin'!!!!!
Subverse still rules hard though

"The vocals have changed to the extent where I initially questioned why the vocalist was replaced."
Hard to take anything in that paragraph seriously after that, but I tried. It really isn't breakdown focused. Are there breakdowns? Of course, but "ridiculously breakdown focused" is a serious exaggeration. And the guitarists had pleeenty of time to shine on this record. How much you enjoyed their style on this album... or didn't enjoy it is your opinion, but they certainly didn't just sit there and chug it out.
I'll agree with the underwhelming choruses though. I love this album and this band to death, but they made some rookie mistakes as far as the choruses and weak clean vocals go. The chorus in Americans is perfect, but the one in Gaunt and Fierce did a lot more harm than good.

I honestly don't see why stating that I thought the vocals have changed is anything to scoff at. They
don't sound like they did on HWL. Even lyrically I sensed a change.
The album is a breakdown fest. That is no exaggeration. Around 25+ percent of the albums content has
at least a breakdown backbone. That wouldn't be an issue if half the breakdowns weren't
uninteresting(Bury Tomorrow do this right).
|
| |
It's not that it's breakdown fest, it's that the breakdowns suck for one. Agreed.
|
| |
The song writing on this cd is great and there aren't an overload of breakdowns this album is very well written

I'm only explaining why I don't like this, don't get so butthurt peeps. I'm not saying you don't deserve to enjoy it.

Have you listened to the album? Breakdowns are everywhere srs.
|
| |
Once again, it's not even that there's too many breakdowns they're just boring as fuck. Like hardly anything above an Emmure album, not even.
|
| |
This album is so stale, and then I instinctively go to HWL to see if it really is better and it's like an overflowing glass of water compared to this dry, boring desert.

Well nothing is like a Emmure album. We agreed with each other. The amount breakdowns has nothing to do with the quality of the record. I'm simply stating there are a lot.
|
| |
It just isn't anything special, the breakdowns do suck though is what I'm saying. Nothing here that even ABR hasn't already done better.
