I can totally fit Monuments into the meaning of the noun usage of "generic". I happen to find their sound hard to tell from the sound of other, many bands in the djent scene. Of course you will always have how to tell them apart and say i'm over my head, and saying they sound the same as many other djent bands will always bring a shit storm upon me but truth is, in my humble opinion, Monuments are a very even listen, too even. Flat. I don't see why people praise John Browne as they do. Not saying he ain't good, i just don't see where he makes this band so much better than everything else in the genre. Let alone Misha Mansoor. Very passable album.

Very fair. Yeah like i've said numerous times in this thread, this simply didn't click with me. Although i can't find a lot to like about them, it comes to a matter of personal taste and perception in the end. Many worship Meshuggah (like me) while some others simply don't feel the groovy song schematics, that almost tribal feel they flood their music with etc.

i dont know if you can "regress" (bad way to put it, the ep is just as good if not better IMO) to the ep after hearing the debut with better production. if you heard the album first then i don't think you'd enjoy the ep....
