"this is their best album since brave murder day hands down"

IDK, this is probably the band's peak, and their most mature album to date. But I still preffer LFDGD and DO's imperfections to this.

yes the straight up amateur/imperfection of some songs in that three album era will probably never be matched. (sounds sarcastic but im totally srs)

This a great album, but their best is Night Is The New Day for as much as a million reasons.

I feel like musically they pull off a lot of interesting things on this record better than they had in the past. The electronics work better, its harmonically more interesting then anything they've put out in a long time, and Jonas I suppose is improving as a singer. But idk somehow doesn't do it for me, doesn't really command my attention outside of a few tracks like Lethean which rules.

I can give 7 boring reasons to counter that.

As someone that still regularly listens to everything from JHVA Elohim Meth to Last Fair Deal Gone Down, this album is rancid. It has way too many keyboards, I could swear Jonah is using autotune on his vocals, the song structures are boring, the riffs are boring. This is just one horribly tedious slab of boring monotony. What happened to the band that wrote songs like I Am Nothing? They must be on too many antidepressants. This is lifeless, dull, and completely missing everything that made Katatonia good.

BTW, the best Katatonia album by far is Brave Murder Day. Second best is Tonight's Decision, third best is Discouraged Ones. They haven't released a good album since Last Fair Deal Gone Down. Night is the New Day was almost as boring as this one.

This album has way more life than Discouraged Ones.
