Yeah vagabonds was pretty mediocre, too polished, too many sing-along anthems.

This & 'Vagabonds' definitely don't have a great deal in common. Although, I like them both... & before this album, I was by no means a fanboy of this band.

Still my album of the year.

A worthy follow up to 'The Silver Chord.' I like 'Vagabonds,' but it feels so out of place in their discography. I was a little worried after I heard it. I didn't know what direction they were going to go in after it. I'm just glad 'Phoenix' came out a winner. I think 'The Silver Chord' is still my favorite though.

"out of place"? Yeah, I guess so, but I think that sound was worth a try & I reckon they learnt a few things from going in that direction.

it felt out of place because the classic crime makes good albums and that was a bad album
one of these things is not like the other

It's entertaining watching 2 people argue when they are both wrong.

This is probably their best album, Davey

Davey, I WANT to like this so bad, but there's just too many tracks that do nothing for me. Vagabonds had a lot of great moments...it's their second-best. Hate to say it , but this is probably their worst.

I find it hard to believe people like Vagabonds more than their other albums. To me, that's like the equivalent of thinking that Brand New's first album is better than their other 3.
Oh well. Everyone has their opinions and it'd be impossible that we would all think the same. And it'd be weird.

Agree with Davey as to AOTY for me, an album full of the worst songs on this album (City of Orphans, Dead Rose) would be a high 3.5/low 4 and an album full of the best (tracks 2, 4, 5, 7) would be close to 5-worthy material.
Now that I've become a Classic Crime fanboy of sorts, where do I go from here? Do I check out Silver Cord or Albatross first?

Might go with the debut first. Silver Cord is quite a bit better (in my opinion), so Albatross might not be as enjoyable if you hear Cord first. Albatross isn't quite as diverse as Cord and Phoenix.
You basically have two kinds of sounds on the debut: the pop/rock, like "Flight of Kings" and "The Coldest Heart," and the edgier, more rock-based tracks, like "The Fight" and "We All Look Elsewhere."

I love the Seattle Sessions. They are so good. Check out "Blindfolded" or "The Test." They are all acoustic, btw.

That's it Freak, you're banned from this thread... At least for the day anyway.
I actually don't mind Brand New's debut, but I guess I don't prefer it over most of their others.
I think most people would agree with thos rankings you 2 guys have, with a couple of interchangeable duos.
High 5 Brostep. Mate, if you like this as much as I do, then you may as well start at the beginning & work forward from there. Their debut is no slouch of an album either.

Your Favorite Weapon and Vagabonds both are good albums. They just kind of feel like they're in a different world when compared to the bands' other CDs.
