Some of the things you are saying are the most mind numbingly stupid statements that I've seen in my four years here. Of course my opinion influences my review. And of course my life will affect how I perceive music. There's no such thing as objective music criticism and anyone who claims otherwise is just being foolish.

Listening to 'Rivertown Blues.' I actually like it. Either the album's been growing on me, or it's
just better away from the rest of the album. I'm leaning towards the second one, but I'm hoping it's
the first one.

1. Sleep In The Snow (The lyrics, the bridge, and that slow section...just perfect)
2. Southern Air (another amazing closing track to add to Yellowcard's catalog)
3. Rivertown Blues (that riff at the end is YC's best since The Takedown)
4. A Vicious Kind (Solid all the way through)
5. Awakening (awesome lyrics, great lead riff, excellent album opener)
6. Always Summer (Violin solo holyyyyshiiiit)
7. Telescope (Pope's backing vocals make this)
8. Ten (all about the lyrics)
9. Here I Am Alive (catchy as fuck and the cheesiness is forgivable)
10. Surface of the Sun (nice riffs just not very memorable)
(also, Fix You cover on iTunes is ace)

Anyone else getting a Mae vibe from this? Either way, album is great.

I seem to be the only person here who thought Ten was the strongest track on the album...
Yes, it's totally about the lyrics and the is very little going on musically? For an album with a good variety musically (and some very strong drumming), it's nice having a song that just focuses on the emotional aspect of the lyrics. The vocal melodies are simple, but they work perfectly.
I tend to listen to pop punk for the nostalgic feelings, and this album definitely gives me some of that when it's not being too awesome. The only weak spot on the album in my opinion is Telescope, but the drumming is still great.

Ten is the only song I didn't like. Never been huge on Yellowcard's acoustic stuff though

i hear a lot of complaints that Vicious is really dissonant and I just do not hear it

I think A Vicious Kind might be my favorite track tbh. That and Awakening are my top 2 anyway but all the rest are really close behind besides Here I am Alive. That one is definitely last.

What a philosophical review! A bit long, but certainly an enjoyable read early morning with the iPad on the shitter.

also Here I Am Alive isn't bad by any means, it's just outclassed by everything else here. chorus grooves pretty well.
