Really underrated stuff, arguably one of the best comeback albums ever in recent times considering how shit VHIII and the Van Hagar years were

China Town is def top-tier Van Halen. Also a bit trivia, She's the Woman was already demoed in 1976.

China Town, As Is and She's The Woman are legit top 25 VH at least. The whole band brought the musical A-game on this, even the weakest songs have a great riff or solo that makes it worthwhile. But yeah, As Is slaps the hardest imo, that outro sends chills down the spine.

Fucking Roth going onto the papers and yapping "Van Halen is finished"

What a gargantuan douchebag. Even without the original 3 vocals, the band can find a new 4th one, probably 10x better than David's tbqh. I'm so sick of this man taking up all of the news regarding Van Halen like he's some pariah. It's fucking Black Sabbath all over again.

“I’ve inherited the band de facto – whatever that means.”

THIS. FUCKING. GUY.

Honestly they should just hire the lead vocalist from Steel Panther to revive the band

"Honestly they should just hire the lead vocalist from Steel Panther to revive the band"

Ooh I could see it. It needs to be a vocalist who can rock out 80's style while also having his own identity.

He'd be able to easily sing all of the old stuff too.

True. Oliver Sykes from BMTH would be a good fit too, he has the ability to soar his vocals without going to hard into Metal territory. Arnel Pineda would be great but he's too busy with fucking Journey.

The real dbags in VH, according to Hagar and DLR, have always been Eddie and Alex, and I'm inclined to believe them. Hagar has a rep for being a supremely nice and gracious guy to everyone, and DLR basically got fired in '84 for musical differences - the VH Bros wanted to go more pop / stadium rock, he wanted it to stick to their roots as a great rock band.

Watch the Rogan interview with DLR, dude's certainly got an ego but seems honestly to just want to have fun playing and writing with VH, honors their legacy, and treats the band with respect. EVH pretty much admitted that the only reason they brought Roth back was because Wolfgang insisted it was the right move, they can't stand each other. Even in other interviews, despite the personal differences, Hagar and DLR always give Eddie respect - I don't think I've ever heard a kind word about either from Eddie in the press, and he's dragged them both in interviews regularly.

Oh yeah, not an insecure bitch AT ALL.

David treating the reunion like just another business venture that he cares little for? LE GASP.

"A more contentious issue concerned Roth’s vision for his proposed Crazy From the Heat film, one that would feature Roth in the starring role. When Roth asked Eddie if he’d be willing to score the movie, Eddie declined. Van Halen told Rolling Stone in 1986 that at that point the discussion came to a grinding halt, with Roth declaring, “I can’t work with you guys anymore. I want to do my movie. Maybe when I’m done, we'll get back together.”

"WAAHHH YOU GUYS WON'T SCORE MY ABJECT FAILURE OF A FILM! I DON'T KNOW YOU GUYS ANYMORE!"

David Lee Roth holding grudge with Sammy over petulent bullshit? Inconceivable.

Stop falling for DLR's bullshit. He's a liar and 90% of people who work with him have nothing but bad shit to say. He's an asshole who thinks he is a god among vocalists.

DLR has always been a condescending prick, especially to Sammy. But take everything you hear from Eddie or Alex with a giant grain of salt. As much as I love those guys as musicians they have zero loyalty to anyone except each other. Any credibility they ever had was flushed when they fired Michael Anthony.

Oh yeah definitely. I try my best to use non-Van Halen family sources. Also I disagree cuz I think Wolfgang is pretty loyal to the band lol

Ha! Yeah, fair enough. Eddie and Wolf seem to have a pretty great relationship. But Michael Anthony >>> Wolfgang. VH isn't even really VH without Anthony's harmonies. Dude has always been the best singer in the band.

I have a minority in that I believe Van Halen should stay in the family. The more Van Halen family members in the band, the better, but yeah MA is a totally different beast.

Van Halen to me has always been about the instruments first and the vocals second, but the vocals should be required regardless.

Van Halen is without a doubt my No. 1 Band period, I get I'm in the minority opinion wise though. A lot of my opinions come from me growing up enamored to the instrumentation of Van Halen's music. As a kid I could always remember the rhythm and instruments, but I would always forget the lyrics cause I never cared about the vocals, but if you suddenly pulled out the vocals and gave me an instrumental it would suddenly sound bad. Does that make sense? I grew up around Eddie and Alex Van Halen, not necessarily the band Van Halen.
