I think I actually prefer the self-titled's sound to IARB's, but the songwriting on the s/t was nowhere close to IARB's, even though I loved the record. Either way I don't think anybody (might be wrong, but certainly not a sizeable number of people) has declared their hatred for this record because of a change in sound or because it doesn't sound, musically, like IARB.

Good review. It makes me want to listen to this so I can hate the album with you.

Jesus I didn't want to read this I was excited about this album. Admit it again sounds like a disgrace.

Admit It Again is perhaps the best song on here

It's one of my favorites. After several listens, I think The Stephen Hawking is my favorite though.
|
| |
Yeah, the Stephen Hawking has really grown on me as of late. That one, Overbiter, and Of Steel.

yeah those songs fucking blow

"Of Steel" is just catchy, not to mention that I love its title

Of Steel has grown on me a lot; it was my least favorite. Now I think I like So Good the least. Still not bad though.
|
| |
Yeah, So Good's lyrics do make me cringe to be honest

I actually like the lyrics (though not the rhyme scheme) but it really is pretty much Crush'd minus a lot of the catchiness.

That doesn't sound like something that a 5-er would say! ;]
I at least don't like the lyrics of the chorus. The rest I can't even remember

I know everyone's pretty much got a polarized position on this, but I'd just like to say that I was really let down by this album...
at first.
When I realized Max trying to compare it to IARB was totally off-base, and after I gave the album a few more listens and shuffled it in with their older material, I came to the conclusion that many of their new songs did stand up well with their old ones. Now my only two complaints are the terrible track order that lets your energy down in the middle and the distinct lack of the word "fuck" after comparing to IARB haha
But, I love Say Anything and chia-like this grew on me

i tried this album twice while reading the lyrics, that was more than enough to justify my rating

One thing that does irk me a bit is Max's self-censoring

"That doesn't sound like something that a 5-er would say! ;]"
Oh there's definitely .5-1 point of bias in my rating haha
But honestly I find the "son of a...mmmm" part one of the funniest things on the album. I think his delivery was really great
|
| |
Hahaha I getcha
And yeah, I agree with that one. The one that particularly irks me is when he sings "when the crap rains down", because we all know that he wanted to say shit there. Explicit Max is just dying to reveal himself on this album, which is why he revels in calling others lecherous douches. (which is my new insult btw)

Lecherous douche is definitely an awesome insult. Yeah somehow I completely blanked on the chorus being censored too. I agree though. PG Max can only say damn and whore unfortunately
|
| |
When he cursed, it was so much more relatable, but now it's almost as if he thinks that not cursing means he's more mature, which isn't the case at all

Well I mean with that line he's definitely going for comedy...if it missed, then it missed. But the point of it was to be funny.
