But this is assuming what he thinks is industrial IS actually industrial

I dunno. He mentioned something about how it didn't have to be "heavy industrial," and how it could just be more "vibey industrial," or something along those lines.
Not really sure what to think?

"It seems bands are supposed to evolve and experiment, but only a small amount per album. Anything more than a gradual change from one to the next with an overall limit of how far they can stray from the original album over the course of their career is just begging to be trashed."
You've obviously never seen how different Devin Townsend's, for example, albums are ("Ghost" and "City"), and how good his critical reception is. I could give dozens of other examples too, the list goes on and on and on. Hate to say it, but your comment comes across as pretty misinformed. I've never heard anyone say "This band has evolved too much." In fact, I laughed a little while reading what you had to say.

Fair ($0.50): Same Old Trip, The Meddler, Revenge
Good ($1.00): Ruse, Envy, Arise
Great ($1.50): Pinata, Hats Off To The Bull, Clones
Excellent ($2.00): Face To The Floor, Prima Donna
It's been almost two months and my opinion has already changed on this. Envy and Pinata are now my favorites, whereas Face To The Floor, Prima Donna, and Arise are now in the Great category.

Good review. I can identify with much of what is being said in it. But only to a certain extent.

So yeah, this is the only Chevelle album which hasn't done anything for me. Maybe my taste has just evolved too much, but I found this album to be extremely hollow.

You have to admit, 13 plus years as a modern mainstream rock band without a shitty album is an incredible success.

^^^ I agree.
Pete has always said "We do what we love, play rock music". What I love about Chevelle is that there are no mysteries here. You know what you are getting from a Chevelle album and a lot of people do not seem to have a problem with that. Yea they could branch out a little more, and that is what they did on this album.
From the likes of "Same Old Trip", that marks the bands first duet with a female vocalist (Pete's sister) and it works. Too bad there wasn't more of that.
"The Meddler". Easily the best track on the album brings a darker, more emotional atmosphere to Chevelle's already semi-dark moods in their lyrics and songs.
"Pinata" having the triple layered solo no one has ever heard from a Chevelle song is pretty ground-breaking for the band and a huge step in the right direction. Also it is probably the only song where Pete sings about lust or love.
"Envy" is their most diverse track yet. Haunting background vocals and Pete's soft lingering vocals really shine here.
Fix the census of this review because to say that Chevelle is band slowly losing faith in themselves makes absolutely no sense. When you have Sci-Fi Crimes and Hats Off To The Bull both pulling in new dynamics and bringing something different to the table as the new albums go on... seems like the faith is being raised and kept in the world of Chevelle.

Chevelle makes me mad cause thier lyrics never make any sense, They make it sound like thier saying something profound but when you think about it thier just individual sentence not connected. If anyone can see how thier lyrics tie in do tell me.

Found this really disappointing...I absolutely adored Sci-Fi Crimes, but I think they played it a little too safe with this release. Which seems odd, because Sci-Fi was probably the closest this band has ever come to really evolving their style. Alas, "Arise," "Revenge" and "Prima Donna" come together as a nice big chunk of well-written radio rock, so props to them for that.
