You and I in Unison

I take back what I said, You and I in Unison has grown on me. Still not a standout track by any means
but not a terrible closer. Album could never close with King Park unless it didn't end with Jordan
fleeing.
As for not boring tracks, a Poem stood out to me on first listen, definitely not boring at all. And
I've loved The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit since they released it.
...And Edward Benz, damn I actually can't see how any of this is boring, maybe a Letter and I could
see it argued with a Departure (at least I thought it was until I listened to it more).

What makes them so boring to you? Just curious. They progress more slowly than Somewhere... but I don't think that makes them boring at all.

@RosaParks
Come onnn we have some pretty similar tastes haha (cept you have liek 12313x more ratings) so I don't get why you aren't enjoying this album...
other songs are great too but ill try to expand on the ones I mentioned.
King Park- The story, period. I'll admit, due to the lack of "melodies" and I guess energetic instrumentation that was much more apparent on Somewhere, it becomes kind of a drag to listen to some of the songs on this LP. But like, the music works WITH the lyrics/song now. In this song the story slowly builds up, with his descriptions of transcending time, seeing them as kids, hearing his uncle try to get him to beg for repentance, until it finally blows with the "Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself"
Safer in the Forest- Thought the song was too long on the first listen. Was just like okay decent song. But now its by far my favorite. I fucking love the beat in the beginning and the way his voice matches it and just flows. The beginning of the first two "verses" just match the rhythm so perfectly I cant help but nod my head. Like the part where he goes "I've been thinking of exileee" just sounds so smooth. Then the song changes completly, gets heavier, builds up and ends with the awesome "Tuebor my home, your desperate friend"
I See Everything- Just the story. A mom telling Jordyn about diary entries (?) of her son who died of cancer. The "JANUARY 19th" part is awesome. The "I SEE EVERYTHING" is awesome.
Harder Harmonies- People thought this was too much like older LD? Idk, thought it was awesome how the melodies in this song, especially near the end with the distorted guitar, were actually "Harder" and rough..kinda the whole theme of the song. Loved how he was trying to describe "finding the right notes" and making them fit. Also love the transition from a Departure.
A Broken jar- I just think of Bell Jar when I listen to the song (same with In a Jar by Brand New) and I love the lyrics about breaking the jar and focusing so much on it. Metaphors. Gotta love em. Also love the chanting esque vocals and transition into the next song.
all our bruised bodies...- The next song. Love the begining, lyrics, and the ending "I wonder what I'll find, I wonder"
You and I in Unison- Not one of my favorites but still thought it was one of the lesser "boring" songs on the album simply because its more like something from Somewhere... than any other song... i.e. more upbeat
So yeah, read this. I hope your rating goes up by at least one point or I will kill myself for writing this much hahah

Rosa, I understand--and, in a way, agree with--your gripes with the album; it feels very drawn out, run-on, and, at times, simply uninspired or boring, at first. However, with each listen, I have begun to settle down, and really listen to what the band is playing, not what I am expecting, or hoping, that they'd play. In short, I'm trusting them to deliver an inspired performance, despite my initial skepticism. And, to be honest, it has more than paid off. This album is much, much less immediate, forceful, and frankly, less catchy than Somewhere At The Bottom..., but what it lacks in charisma, it more than makes up for in confidence. The band has slowed down, mastered, and channeled their rage. The moments of violence and outbursts of jagged guitars are all the more powerful for their sparseness, and the underlying grooviness of the band has only increased in prowess and swagger. I'll be the first to admit that I still prefer Somewhere At The Bottom... to this record, but this is an incredibly well structured, finely textured, and occasionally thrilling collection of pop-sensible post-hardcore songs.

This just keeps getting better and better and better. Fucking fantastic record. I can't wait to see these guys with Thrice, Moving Mountains, and O'Brother. Seems like an epic lineup, DARLINGS.
| | | for similar reasons explained in the review, i find this much more interesting than their debut, especially with the lyrics
