As for the question of why I wrote this review now and not in 2009, the answer's pretty
mundane. I was abroad when this album was released so I didn't review it at the time
I asked you about this review being influenced by the band's success and why you hadn't written this
review in 2009, but apparently you used to like this album according to curseworship, so . . .

I erm... changed my mind about it? Is that not allowed any more? Call the Daily Mail and get them to write an article about U-Turns! Alternatively, consider that I listened to, and thought about, the album more. That tends to happen over time... the reverse certainly isn't possible, is it?
It's sort of ironic, really, that everyone is accusing me of not actually disliking the album, given what some people seem to have read into this review, and given its opening paragraph.
If I'd reviewed it in 2009 two things might have happened:
1) As I reviewed it I realised all the things I mentioned in this review.
2) As I reviewed it I didn't realise those things and now I would regret writing the review and be considering changing it.

I was just led to believe you had always held the same view. I'm curious though: Am I correct in saying that, had this band gone unnoticed in the mainstream, you would not have even bothered writing this? It just seems like a lot of your argument is based on the band's effect, whatever motive as you said, and I now understand, on the masses. It just seems this review cruxes on the album being popular, not so much its music, as others have said. Does that make any sense?
|
| |
I'm not saying you hate popular music and that's why you hate this! Just about your argument.
|
| |
Downer why didn't you review Remain in Light back in '80?
|

2nd nicest is still a compliment. Actually 3rd nicest because there's you.
Awwwwww

I am not accusing you of not disliking it, hell I am not one of the guys accusing you of writing this to rile people up, I just asked it because, I guess, I wished that the review had talked a little bit more about how (and looking back it kinda does in bit and pieces) this album went from being something you liked to something that you clearly don't anymore. I certainly am not questioning your validity, it was just a "pick your brain" to help me understand kind of thing.

Did Downer use the same argument as Knott did here, rabbit? If so, I'd ask the same question to him. Age has nothing to
do with it. You aren't getting what I'm asking.

I think your review was slightly biased. It was pretty well-written, and I guess the points (while, hypocritically pretentious) supported your rating.
It does seem as though you don't like the music due to its mainstream popularity, and your dislike for the band caused you to criticize their approach to music. And again, you did support your criticism well, but your arguments were pretty pretentious in their own right.

Did you just look at the album and rating and make your own conclusions of what the review would be about?

Uh, what? No?

It just slipped to a 3.6. That really isn't indicative of the userbase being "mindless drones."
