The fuck is that? Lmao

"All the technical flourishes are just that, flourishes (usually the same harmonizing positions too, for cheap "morbidity" i.e. death metal cred), and don't add anything to death metal, sounding like unnecessarily bloated versions of what could be decent Brutality riffs. The band is content with just grooving most of the time and thus negates the whole purpose of their pretension towards intellectualism with the concepts they present in their lyrics. "

Checked their list of reviews, and the titles lmfao

Portal - Vexovoid 0% "A droning insomnia cure"

Gorguts - Colored Sands 0% "Gorguts the brand name, not the band"

AtG - Slaughter 0% "McDonald's culture approved mall muzak"

Definitely safe to say that guy has no idea how to dm and trying way too hard to be elitist, although I've certainly read much worse on metallum lol

Didn't you know that metal died in 1993? Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 1994, being already recorded by 1993). Metal achieved its creative peak in albums like Onward to Golgotha, Pure Holocaust, and The Red in the Sky is Ours, elevating the genre into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to Slaughter of the Soul and Gojira, all its potential was squandered and the genre has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn underground metal into AC/DC).

A modicum of aggression does not death metal make, and it applies quite easily to the drums and vocals here. The former taps away with a predictable series of skank beats and tom fills, while the latter, despite 'growling' in a mildly inaccessible way, seems to be halfway pop crooning with an overly emotional delivery that doesn't quite mask the inherent sterility of the music on this release. Why the hell is this legendary? There's too much technicality and melody and not enough genuine songwriting. Dark Tranquillity on this album has a massive case of Opeth Syndrome; beautiful portions that have absolutely no connection to each other.

Enjoyable parts are few and far between. 'Edenspring' is probably the best, packing the most logical and quality riffing. 'Midway Through Infinity' is also enjoyable for similar reasons. However, on the exact opposite end you have stuff like 'Punish My Heaven' with its constant atonal noodling, or '...Of Melancholy Burning', with its horrifically warbling female vocals that add nothing but horror to proceedings, and not in a cool way. No matter how many times I listen to it, it stays just as underwhelming and boring play after play, offering nothing new, despite the 'depth' of the music here.

Ah, this is one of my favs. A rev for Onward to Golgotha lol

Now let's talk about the vocals. Just what in the fuck is he saying? There might as well not be any lyrics, because nothing that comes out is in the least bit decipherable. Vocals that are indecipherable are one thing, but when every single syllable that comes out of the guy's mouth sounds EXACTLY the same, you wonder what the fuck is the point of even having vocals at all. None of his low-pitched gargling delivers the slightest degree of passion or power. As for the tone of the voice being used, it resembles the sound of someone puking. It is absolutely horrible and intolerable to listen to.

Is there any redeeming quality to this flaming pile of shit? Unfortunately, no, there really isn't. Sometimes, even when a bands completely SOUNDS like shit, they retain a redeeming factor in that the riffs and solos they play actually take skill or dexterity. That isn't the case here. No demanding technical skill is to be found. The most you'll get is some fast right hand picking, but unfortunately the right hands seem to be totally out of sync and out of communication with the left hand on the fret board. Very little solos are found within this album, and when they actually come, they are short, spurious, and devoid of any passion whatsoever.

In conclusion, it was a complete waste of my time to check out this shitty album. It truly deserves a 0/100.
