i wouldn't be so quick to say it's not innovative--or not so innovative as something else. it
hasn't been out very long. i do have a feeling it could create quite an impact, once it starts
reaching new audiences (probably thru word of mouth more than anything, cz this album isn't getting
ANY reviews from ANY major publications). once it does, it may well be a pretty influential album:
it's the only i've heard to make the characteristics of math rock as accessible as they are here.
this could potentially open those big doors for more technical music in the industry. Patagonian
Rats is a pretty big leap for Tera Melos, or for any band . . . i listen to a lot of music, and i
certainly have never heard complex music the way it's done here. and it's more than just the
complexity too. the closest i can think of is Namesake Caution by Time of Orchids, but even that
album isn't really very accessible.
i don't want to say it'll have such an impact quite yet, but it's definitely not a stretch of my
imagination.
and i would also like to read the tombits review.

some like to hold the '5' ranking with such high esteem and regard, that ranking an album with a 'classic' title is out of the question unless it's been out for several years and its musical and political influence has rippled throughout the entire industry. Me? I give out a 5 if it sounds really good and badass-like.

yeah nobody thinks that I don't think. believe it or not there's some fair middle-ground between that, and rating an album a 5 before its release date because it sounds sooper duper badass.
