to add to what jr said. this is one of those rare albums where the performances, production and songwriting all come together to make a classic. it mixes elements of classic soul, legit jazz playing, and jdilla hip hop (among many other things) into something timeless and still fresh sounding 25yrs later. it also might be the most "in the pocket" album of all time, permanent stank face the whole way thru

Def start from the beginning imo. All 3 albums have their own character and strengths but D'Angelo never compromises his artistic identity. Brown Sugar is his most accessible but my personal favorite
