Idk, I'm digging it atm. It'll probably be down to a 3.5 in a week.

drums are not impressive. in this album at least.

no but seriously if you think that in all honesty you must not understand how drums work.
|
| |
go try and play that and then come back and tell me that.
seriously, the drums and guitars are the best part about this in all honesty. the people that just say "oh cool, the drums follow the guitars and stuff so he's average because hes not doing crazy stuff" must not understand how difficult it is to play polyrhythmic stuff of this caliber and add accents and fills like matt does. dude used to play for animals as leaders and is trained in gospel. he's pretty much one of the better drummers in metal today

Yeah man, you must not be all that serious about drums or something. I've been playing for years and can say he's pretty ridiculous, don't see how you think it's nothing particularly special. The songs have a bunch of odd syncopation and ghost notes that are slightly less audible with some of the production. Extremely fluid motions and placed pretty well.
As for the album...eh. I don't know. I'd give it a 3-3.5 probably. The vocals while good individually just kind of erk me in the places they show up or the lines anyways. Generally I'm interested in the guitar work but the djent stuff (at large) just feels like a poor mans Meshuggah with no fusion influenced soloing. I need to give this another listen to really figure out where I stand..

i think the ghost notes are what blows my mind the most about his playing because sometimes on this record i hear the stuff he does and i wonder "how is that even possible" but i know it is because i've seen him do it live. also, the drum groove about half-way through racecar is pretty much the most awesome groove i've ever heard in my life.

joey jordinson 5/5

listen closer chambered idk. as far as metal drummers go, this guy is one of the most interesting players around right now. it's almost like what i'd expect to hear if jon theodore had great double bass chops and joined a metal band.
|
| |
I mean it's totally understandable if you're comparing him to like Dennis Chambers or someone who is just mind-boggling but for your debut with a band like this, it's pretty impressive, or at least I think so. Personally I was blown away watching him jam some of this in person...a lot of things that I didn't think of at first listen/glance.

This is a poor man's Protest the Hero which awkwardly places electronic bits where PTH has keyboards.
I stand by this.

People either jizz all over drummers or hate their guts.

i really hope some of these bands learn how to write songs, they'd rule.
srsly btbam has some fucking awesome moments (mordecai, aspirations, parts of shevanel cut a flip, parts of prequel to the sequel, mirrors etc) as does pth (turn soonest, no stars, part of bloodmeat etc)

I (mostly) love Protest, but only on a song by song basis.

I love them in the gayest way possible. And can't help to find some resemblance between PTH and these guys, but while PTH albums are somewhat messy this feels like it is held toghether with duck tape and bubblegum.

Would much rather listen to PTH than this band.
