Theyre like what opeth would be like if Mikael grew up listening to hardcore instead of death metal.
Basically, they appeal to alot of different audiences-the super duper music nerds like them because they show originality and progression, metalheads like them because they're a breath of fresh air from the rest of the copy+paste metalcore bands, and scenesters like them because they're similar enough to all the other metalcore bands & are accessible.

Well I did notice last time I saw them that they're really not as original as you'd think. They pretty much use the exact same transition all the time and Tommy is a pretty awful vocalist.
I wish they'd do a 100% clean record. I could live with never hearing the dun-dun-fastpart-growl-dun-dun-dundun stuff.
With that said, Sun of Nothing, a new 10 minute track, is about 60% clean and honestly kicks ass.

I can't see how people enjoy a vocalist that sounds like a barking dog.

I don't see why people enjoy a washed-up balding vocalist that thinks he's funny by releasing an ass-tastic concept album about aliens and coffee. What's your point?

At least you can understand Devon. Are you a fanboy because i'm not attacking the band i'm just asking a question and you seem to think insulting Devon Townsend is gonna piss me off or something.

I can't see how people enjoy a vocalist that sounds like a barking dog. Lord Worm is 1000x more doglike in his vocal style and I friggin love his vocals.

because he's washed up and it was a rhetorical response.

No, I'm not a fanboy and since you insulted the band (barking dog), I decided I'd turn the tables. Devin Townsend has his perks, as does this band, so get over it.

Yeah, the vocals for this band were a major turn off, but I'm really starting to dig this now. Can't wait for Colors.

The only problem with Colors, from what I've heard, is it's all over the place. Each song is like, 50 songs in one.

I'm merely pointing out how it is nearly impossible to understand him. I didn't mean to hurt you feelings and start an argument by just stating that i can't see why people like them so much.

Live. I was beside the stage; they played two songs, and seeing as they sound exactly the same live and on album, it was really clear to hear what was going on.

Saweet. What are you thinking in comparison to their older material? You think this will be like.. good and stuff?

It'll be pretty awesome, but they do still repeat the same transitions. It's a lot more varied, though. Sun of Nothing is 11 minutes and changes at least 40 times. It goes from really heavy pseudo-death metal to a swing break to a really badass alt-rock song.

I first heard/saw Alaska on a DVD that came with a Cd i bought thanks to Victory records. I was instantly hooked and had to find out more to this. Upon purchasing Alaska, I had to skip class cause i heard it from start to finish. Awesome guitar work can be found here along with great drumming. Lets not forget the screaming....ALASKA! ALASKA!! Simply beautiful. personal fave: backwards marathon
