"I didn't hear any metal here really, just shoegaze/post-rock/dream pop." Correct, though there is a Black Metal influence here.

I don't really know exactly what black metal sounds like enough to tell where the influence is (I do understand that this band came from that scene though and that they actually essentially re-innovated shoegaze with this album despite being ignorant of the genre, which is pretty cool), but this pretty much sounds like if you took the metal parts out of Kodama and added some folk to the mix. I guess the songwriting is metal, maybe?

I expect that its because this is their least "metal" album. (I know shelter exists but that is commonly considered one of their worst)

This makes sense, I come to this band for the shoegaze not the metal so it makes sense the stuff I've read about this prefer this to their other work.

Especially the last track. They dont combine the new age, shoegaze and folk elements well imo. Its kind of aimless.

"essentially re-innovated shoegaze with this album despite being ignorant of the genre" Why this is the best :D

I think the biggest problem of this album is Sur l'autre rive due to how one-sided it is and also because of the guest vocals (one of the reasons I don't really like Amesoeurs as well). The last song is pretty good imo, if only because it loosens things up a little bit with its vastly different sound compared to the rest of the album while still maintaining its disinct atmosphere. Not one of the better songs on here for sure, but I kinda like the Cocteau Twin-ish vibe it has.
