Dear Death Pt. 1 is the only track on here that seems kind of outta place. It's not bad, it just doesn't match up to the rest of the album. And Pt. 2 makes up for it.

There's a great transition into pt 2 though so I really don't mind...

Cush, I wouldn't say it's "out of place" at all. It's simply an introduction for the closer. It works well in that sense.

LOL. Hence calling it Part I & Part II.
But yeah, on its own, I guess its clear that it's the least effective track on the album.

I want to like this more, but sometimes the lyrics get a little too emo for me. I mean, there a dredg-like parts where I can get down with it, but I don't know....sometimes it gets too emo for my taste. However, I think some of the melodies are great. The music is being great put this above a 3, but sometimes the vocals throw it off. Maybe it will change. Also, "Inside Our Skin" has a guitar melody that reminds me of a weezer song that I can't put my hands on.

You're so influential Douglas.
SteelErected, fair call on the lyrics to a certain extent. I could see why some listeners may not like them. Give the vocals more of a chance though. I think they are great... & having 3 vocalists make them diverse.

I'm sensin' opposite directions as well, but it may need to grow on me like you said. However the last two albums before this instantly clicked with me. I believe I expected Shallow Seas to be somewhat more 'theatrical' after they made "I'm Only A Man". I am glad though they still have the dual vocals...I thought one of the singers had left.

"dual"? Make it tri. There are actually 3 vocalists in the band, believe it or not. But yeah, I know what you're getting at.
I didn't know what to expect after 'Im Only A Man', but what I got was a band taking the scattershot positives from that album (as few & far between as they may have been) & adding them to wat made their first 2 albums so great.

haha I've never considered the keyboardist a vocalist. a showboatist yes, not a vocalist. his screams add a nice aesthitic to Emery's music but their true talent is the clean vocals so in the end I think they're unneccessary
Can't Stop The Killer and what Makes A Man A Man made that album great. I agree with what you said about Nickel Slick though. The new verses are plain akward

Their instrumentation is fantastic.

I didn't think the instrumentation on Only A Man was that weak. They already had plenty of simpler songs...take Studying Politics for instance.

Was trying to not listen to this for a couple of days, to see what I would think after a short break. Nothing major, just like...a week or so. Couldn't make it. Disc rules.

Could it be that the catchiness doesn't last forever?!? I listened to Fun. Too much also and it really did wear off. I am trying to listen to this in moderation.

Yeah, catchiness can definitely wear off... BUT that when the music is supposed to kick in. On both this & the fun. album, you will hopefully realize there is more than just catchy vocals.
