I think this is a step above Christ Illusion. The melodies they've included in a lot of the songs are a welcome inclusion to Slayer who are primarily in-your-face thrash all the way. So the melody isn't to the likes of Megadeth or Metallica, it's still cool and Slayer have always been much different than those other bands.
This is no Reign In Blood or South of Heaven, but it's a good Slayer album and doesn't deserve below a 3.

After giving this a few more listens have to say this album is very good. The worst song is Human Strain because of it's repetitive guitar riff, but overall this is a great Slayer album. 4/5 definately.
Oh and since when have Slayer ever had thought provoking, meaningful lyrics? People that complain about the lyrics of a Slayer song really confuse the hell out of me.
