daveyboy, i havent changed the ratings on the other ones. just too lazy to click and change the ratings. haha. a bad thing with this album is 6 of the songs sound very similar, and the flow is off, the single is by far the best song on here, and while there are still some quality songs on this cd, they need to mix it up a little bit.

I still think this album is awesome, but again it's the opinion of a fan.. they're my favorite band.
Daveyboy [Smith, The British Buldog? LOL] makes a good review though..I really disliked the other one I read.. --'
One thing I really disagree with you, Davey, is when you say this album is a stepdown from their last two..I feel this was actually their most mature and worked album.
One thing that I absolutely agree is that they forgot to include the beautifull intros like in Phobia and the acoustic parts like in We are not alone.
The lyrics are pretty good, not that easy to understand; in my view whoever says this is easy to understand either is a formed guy in poetry , or is another asshole, probably an expert wannabe -.-
But serioulsy, I really liked to read the review. Not only well written, but also very well argued. In my book, a well argued opinion is a valid opinion. And that's sayin' something.

Ahhh, that makes sense Acey. And yeah, as I've already stated, I agree with too many songs blending into each other. Good to see you still around mate.
Thanks on the review & the arguments I make in it DarkShowstopper. Those comments are appreciated. We'll have to agree to disagree on this album's maturity compared to their last 2. Don't get me wrong, I can see where you're coming from... But I just the think the lack of variety here suggests otherwise.

np daveyboy. but the single on here is pretty badass im not gonna lie. track 3 is pretty good, other than that the songs tend to blend together. not in a bad way tho.

If I can suggest something Acey; listen to a few songs out of order. Especially the closer. When an album has too many similar songs, I find that those towards the end get individually under-rated a little. I think that's the case here because come the final song, listeners are crying out for something different. 'Without You' doesn't exactly provide that, but it is actually really good.

I listened to the songs you recommended Davey, nothing that great, but alright.
Has Ben changed his scream? It sounds different to me.

"nothing that great, but alright" Well summed up I guess. Thanks for giving them a go CTS.
"Has Ben changed his scream? It sounds different to me." Yeah, I think he has. To me, he is almost trying to make the screams sound more genuine metal than say nu-metal. Unfortunately, I think it comes off as a little fake to me. They don't seem natural.
|
| |
Yeah, I get the same feeling. Something with his scream just doesn't seem right. I don't know why he would cahnge it, there was nothing wrong with it.

Not a bad album, but just average, nothing really grabbed me.

Agreed CTS. And if anything, it will earn them less radio play, which is their bread & butter.
It seems that 2.5 is the most popular rating for this album. I think many would express their thoughts like you JWT.

I still have no urge to actively seek this out. If it happens to be in my immediate viscinity sometime then I'll give it a listen but if not then I'm happy enough with the odd listen to 'Diary of Jane'.

Yeah, if your list for the remainder of '09 is still as long as mine Ross, don't concern yourself with this.
|
| |
Haha I have listened to a solid 50 or so albums from 09, but I'll be trying to double that number over the next couple of months. But yeah, many more important things on my list.

I'm probably around the same number. Listening to 50 albums in less than 70 days sounds a little ambitious though. I'd start prioritising now if I was you.
|
| |
It can be done... but I personally don't ever pick a number and try to digest that many albums. Davey, do you like Sigur Ros at all?

I haven't forgotten about your new review gyro... I'll make my way there soon. Only given them a brief listen mate & it was not at the best time to take something new in. Basically, it put me to sleep.

Lol...okay mate. also, you should download Yndi Halda's Enjoy Eternal Bliss for the best post-rock listening.

I'll keep that in mind... when I decide I'm ready for post-rock.

Davey, when you shuffle this cd by itself, starting with the single, no matter the order, it seems the songs flow a little better. the closer definately ended the cd in a positive direction. and about his scream.. he's no Mikael Akerfeldt, but has improved vastly from what he was doing vocally with the screaming. more genuine as you said.

his voice is probably the best on the cd at that point.
