low-key am hoping for an eventual re-recording of One Second as well
|

sadly they've had to make a whole separate side-project just to use a couple synths again

With the direction they're currently going in, seems to me like it was the right move to make Host a separate project. I don't see a death/doom/goth crowd necessarily get hyped for a new goth-synth record

Can confirm.

That I understand. But I'd be so down for a tinge of industrial here and there in their late career, which doesn't look likely at this point. I just find it a bit of a let-down when quirky discographies stop being quirky. Then again we've got some of their most death doomy stuff ever and Medusa even flirted with stoner fuzz, so I'm not saying they're bankrupt or anything

No cd edition so far. Wtf..
|
| |
They've been making a fuss about publishing a vinyl edition treating it like a deluxe epic thing, to the point that now we see they're even releasing it on two discs to have the best quality possibile (no, there doesn't seem to be any bonus track). I guess the label just wants to milk all the money they can out of Icon.
I hope this kind of special treatment for the vinyl won't translate in having a different and terrible compressed mastering for the eventual CD/streaming/download... this is the kind of thing that keeps alive the silly myth of vinyl superiority. Then again the music industry is making plenty of money out of vinyl lately due to that

The sole purpose of the re-recording is for the band to be able to make money when performing the songs of this album live.
In the light of the above, the re-recording as well as the sound work of the physical release, are somewhat immaterial, as die-hard fans will buy whatever physical format is available, no matter what.

Voivod bro this makes it sound like the physical editions will be bought by fans just as knick-knacks without considering the listening quality
Not to mention they're charging a pretty penny
Then again I'd most likely buy a CD copy anyway mmmmh :D

Mackintosh uploaded a video on Facebook saying they heard the fans and will make a limited CD run later on

Yeah it's actually pretty nice

Widow sounds really good. Holmes sounds phenomenal.
|

bros!!! indeed, Widow rocks!
really cool they kept the lil pre-chorus clean vocals at low volume like the og, seems the atmosphere didn't suffer too much. The layered STROOONG is also sweet (though I prefer the og's strain rather than the new growly take but that's nitpick)

True. Looking forward to the whole re-recording.

Curious to hear the buried gothy vocals inside Colossal Rains ("dark waters flowing free...")
