Just to add some balance here, I dislike this album AND this review. Gyro, your other reviews were much better than this. Mainly because they were lengthy enough to really explain their respective ratings, this review is not. I agree with your point about the vocals being overproduced, however the way in which you drive that point home is redundant as hell for as short as the review is. I won't neg however, it isn't an awful review, just very uninspired.

I think, that reviewer Matt F. is just very hardly influenced by post-rock and other post-scene. Personally, I don't believe a word from Muse singer's mouth. But that's just about every individual listener. No offense, Matt. I respect your review.

mothergoose: Yeah, I agree, and thank you. I worked a bit more on my other reviews and this was just too damn short and more or less a rant than anything else. I'm thinking about re-writing it to better explain my rating.
bouben: Read my other reviews and kind of disregard this one. It's true, I love my post rock, but to pretty much sum up why I don't like this album that much: the vocals are over produced and I don't care if he uses a vocador, he shouldn't need to, the sound he achieves with it is boring as all hell. Again, this lacks emotional depth because it feels so polished and perfectly executed (which isn't a good thing). And dude... how could you not like Muse?

gyromania1: Hey man, I don't like Muses singer. They are obviously great musicians, but I really can't stand singer's theatrical expression in vocals. He's like some kind of today's emo teenager in affect. That way, how he takes in breath everytime he want to sing. I hate it.
And about Cynic, I must listen to this album few more times. The truth is, that I am not amazed yet somehow...

the main problem with this album as lots of people have identified is that it lacks emotional depth... i don't really care, it was meant to be in that catagory and not meant to be critizised by it.
|

the main problem with this album is although it's good it's not that good

i have it rated as good, but after hearing it more... for some odd reason i feel compelled to drop my rating back down to 2.

then i'll be forced to raise you to a 4
|
| |
can you forgive me?
|
| |
yeah bro. i called it starry night, but i don't expect it will sell, not until i'm dead and some retard throws it up in some museum and takes all the money for it.
